Process of Deionization
In order to understand a water deionizer, you need to understand what deionization of water is. During water purification, ion exchange is when impurity ions present in the water are replaced by an ion exchange resin. Positively charged ions are called cations and are usually metal. Examples of cations are calcium (Ca2+), magnesium (Mg2+), Sodium (Na+), Potassium (K+), and Iron (Fe2+). Negatively charged ions are called anions and are usually non-metal. Examples of anions are chloride (Cl-), Bicarbonate (HCO3-), Nitrate (NO3-), Carbonate (CO32-), and Sulfate (SOH2). Cation exchange resins will release hydrogen (H+) ions that will replace positively charged impurities in the water. It will release as many hydrogen ions as it needs to replace all the positive impurities. Anion exchange will release hydroxl (OH-) to replace all negative impurities present in the water. There are 3 ways of deionization. Cation exchange resin alone can be used to soften water. Anion exchange resin can be used for organic scavenging or nitrate removal. Both can be used to remove virtually all impurities present, resulting in exceptionally high-quality water. Many labs and industries are required to have water that is free of all containment, making a water deionizer a must have for them.
Types of Deionization
The two most common types of a water deionizer, are the mixed-bed deionizer and the two-bed deionizer.
Mixed Bed Deionizer
In a mixed-bed water deionizer the cation and anion resins share a single vessel. The result is higher quality water than what you get with a two-bed. Even with outstanding effectiveness with purification, this water deionizer has its flaw. Mixed-bed plants are more sensitive to impurities in the water, so it involves a more complicated regeneration process. This water deionizer is mainly used to bring the water supply to a better purification once it has been run through a two bed system already. Think of it as a final touch system.
A popular brand of residential deionizers is On the Go water deionizers. They have a mixed bed standard deionizer for only $299.00. This model is compact and lightweight. It only weighs 18 pounds and can be put in a garage, in an office, or anywhere you need deionized water. It can also be taken on the road with you. Its flow rate is most effective when set at less than 2 gallons per minute. This water deionizer includes a 4″ pressure hose, a shutoff valve, a hand-held TDS meter, and cap plugs for inlet and outlet.
On the Go water also offers a mixed bed deionizer for businesses. This water deionizer is called the Mixed Bed Deionizer Business Model. This water deionizer is perfect for any large volume business or manufacturing process. This model only occupies a 10″ by 10″ space and costs $660.00. This model comes with everything the standard model comes with and can be most effective when operated at less than 5-6 gallons per minute.
Dual Bed Deionizer
The dual bed deionizer consists of two vessels. One containing a cation exchange resin and one containing an anion exchange resin. Water flows through the cation vessel and hydrogen ions replace any cation impurities in the water. The water then flows through the anion vessel and hydroxide replaces any anion impurities in the water. The hydrogen ions that replaced the cations will bind with the hydroxide ions that replaced the anions to form H20(water).
On the Go has a dual bed deionizer for $549.00. This model consists of two resin tanks. One contains 1/4 cubic feet of cation resin and the other contains 1/4 cubic feet of anion resin. When run in series you will produce 1/3 more water and will reduce your operating cost by 50% when compared to a mixed tank. This water deionizer only weighs 36 pounds and only occupies a 10″ by 20″ space. It comes with same components as the mixed bed deionizer and operates best at 2 gallons per minute.
On the Go also has a dual bed deionizer business model. This model costs $950.00 and will lower your cost per gallon. It will also save you time on refills. This model produces 250% more water than the mixed bed commercial tank. This model is perfect for manufacturers, window cleaners, and car detailers. This water deionizer also comes complete with all standard components.
Griot’s Garage offers a portable water deionizer. It uses the same concept used in a mixed bed tank, but is more mobile. This can be great for washing cars with deionized water. If you live in an area with hard water, this would be a perfect way to keep those hard to get off spots from drying on your car. This model cost $370.00 and comes standard with 13 pounds of ion exchange resins. This water deionizer is also on a rolling caddy and can be wheeled anywhere you need it.
Benefits of Ionized Water
The ending result of water that has gone through a water deionizer is form of water known as alkaline water. It should be used for cooking and drinking. Alkaline water enhances the taste of food cooked in it and also enhances the natural benefits of drinking water. The body becomes hydrated more quickly with ionized water, helping to regulate body temperature. Water that has passed through a water deionizer can also help regulate your natural pH level. Ionized water is also good for your digestive system. Cleaning toxins out of your body better than regular tap water. You can also benefit in other ways than health. Washing cars with hard mineral water can cause spots on the paint job that are hard to remove. When you wash your car with water that has been through a water deionizer, you won’t have those spots. This same concept applies to washing windows.
Currently there are many places online to find deals and discounts on water deionizers. By doing a simple search online, you can usually find a Tyent USA coupon code which can sometimes save you up to $1,300 to $1,800 off your purchase.
If you want healthier and more efficient water, a water deionizer is going to be your best option. On the Go and Griot’s Garage seem to be the best place to purchase one of these water purifying life savers. They have the best overall price for the quality of the product. Anyone looking for the highest grade purified water should definitely consider getting a water deionizer installed in their home or wherever they may need one.
